Week 5

Monday 24th October 2011
  • Weekend - Did a drawing of Granddad's Teleport Machine.
Mark Crilley's new video on how to something in perspective helped me to get the proportion of the furniture just right.
  • Day started 9:30.
  • Re-drew over the pencil lines of Teleport Machine with Fine Liner.

  • Drew the same teleport machine at different angle using Mark Crilley's guide and used Fine Liner to draw over pencil.

This appealled to me as it looks like an optical illusion, which the interests developed from my previous projects.
The branch of the tree in the foreground also looks as though it could be a path with the background looking like a lake
This picture of a room with no corners by Roger Dean has inspired me more regarding the buildings in Planet Vi-ackle having rounded doors, windows and walls.
  • Day ended 4pm.

Tuesday 25th October 2011
"I've called science fiction 'reality ahead of schedule."
  • Interesting to know that he has collaborated with Disney and Anime artist who also inspired me to do what I am doing now.
Though his work looks sophisticated, I have decided to look at his work regarding furniture and gagdets that may be used in my Graphic Novel and blend them in with what I took in when looking at Roger Dean.
  • Continued writing a bit of Chapter 3.
  • Day ended 4pm.

Thursday 27th October 2011
  • Day started 10am.
  • Spoke to Dorota (fellow student) about work experience placements. I was advised to avoid secondary schools, and tried phoning up a couple of primary schools (forgetiing it was half term).
  • Meeting with my Collaborative Project members. Dorota, Rita andI were present. Jo and Michelle G. were absent.

  • Choice between Big Draw Little Draw, and Empty shop to Small Gallery.
  • Me chose to designer flyers. But nothing confirmed until all 5 of us agree.
  • Next meeting 14th October, 10am at Rita's house.
  • Completed Chapter 3 and 4 of script for my Neg. Project.

  • Had a look at Hobbit Houses.

The interior of the Hobbit House above

This one reminded ne of the Teletubbies' House, who also seem to be aliens. But the reason why I tried avoiding researching them was because, they are aimed at l
very little children less than the age of 6years, and I intend to aim my Graphic Novel at teens and above. But now I am thinking this probably would give me some more idea regarding the foods and drinks my Vi-ackling have.

  • Day ended 4pm.

  • Day ended 3:45pm.

Thursday 20th October 2011
  • Prior to the day, did another drawing on Mondi saying 'Bye Vaux!' as she walks away.

  • Day started 9:30am.
  • Added the picture that I drew and edited into page 19.
Wanted to add a soft red boarder around the outside of the zig-zag frame of the bottom picture. However when added, it seemed like it was putting a bit of a strain on the eye, and too much was going on. Same went with the backround of Mondi and the girls walking away, as that was going to be in colour, but put a line drawing version instead.
  • Completed writing Chapter 2, and began writing Chapter 3.
  • After lunch - Another Pro Practice lecture introducing Jane McAllistair, Careers Consultant. Was interesting to know what she does. Also helped me feel a bit more better about module. Next time will look at CV. So have to try and write one before then.

  • Day ended 3:45.

Week 3

Monday 10th October 2011
  • Did some work over weekend. Did two different sizes for each page, as I realised the template, I thought of using with Blurb Smartbook did not look right with my 'A3' shape page. Also was worried the sides would not be shown when getting to middle so made my pages 'slimmer'.

  • Did some new drawings as a new page came about while rearrange my page layouts.

  • Day started 9:30am.
  • Added a bit more to Page 7.

  • Continued rearranging layout. Page 11 - 13.

  • Day ended 3:45pm.

Tuesday 11th October 2011

  • Continued rearranging pages 14 - 15.

  • 2:35pm - Had a very useful tutorial with Boris on how my book should be made and what paper/company to use.

  • Day ended 3:45pm.

Thursday 13th October 2011
  • Day started 9:30am.
  • Continued with rearranging Chapter 1.
  • 1pm - Professional Practice Launch. Quite overwelming, and panicked. But teacher explain that I'll ok and told me pointers that put me thinking/going along the right track.
  • thought about working at my school and writing a letter to Headmaster.
  • Day end 4pm.

Week 2

Monday 3rd October 2011

  • Completed first draft of Negotiated Practice programme for this year.
  • Day ended 1:45pm.

Tuesday 4th October 2011
  • Day started 9:30am
  • From research over holiday, started rearranging layout of pages in my book so far. Pages 1 - 4.

Mark Crilley, I have to admit is the core of my research. His books and video tutorials have inspired me a lot!
During the holiday, I read his Manga series ‘Miki Falls’ and I got some ideas on how my book could be laid. I especially like the idea of having the title in the inside appear later in the book, after the prologue. It’s like how many modern films and dramas on TV start, where the title doesn’t come in first thing. They also gave me an idea on how each page would look better.
Mark uploaded a video over the holiday showing a rough guide on how to lay out a page in a comic and that made it more clear to me on how my Graphic Novel should look.
Now, I personally don’t like redrawing things, but this has helped me understand where to place speech bubbles in order to understand the story. In my case, I actually did find Mark Crilley’s stories easier to understand as when I read Manga books such as Peppermint, where I struggled to understand which bubble to read next and the story was breaking up. But Mark Crilley’s flowed very easily. Plus it was funny!
  • Tutorial with Steve Perkins at 3:20pm. Consider number of pages. Write Dialogue.

  • Signed up for a toturial on the technical side of my project with Boris next Tuesday.
  • Day ended 3:45pm.

Thursday 6th October 2011
  • Day started 9:30pm.
  • Continued rearranging layout. Pages 5 - 9.

  • Day ended 3:45pm.
